Why is the area up and coming?

Situated just 20km to the north-west of Auckland’s central business district, Hobsonville Point was previously an airforce base but is now home to a master-planned community that will eventually house more than 11,000 residents in over 4,500 homes, serviced by new schools and a wide range of community facilities. While residential development is predominantly mid to high density, the area will include 13 parks and reserves and a 5km coastal walkway.

Our favourite bits

Catalina Café is a favourite gathering place for locals and visitors. The latest addition to the rapidly expanding hospitality scene is the Little Creatures micro-brewery located within the refurbished Sunderland Aircraft hangar on the waterfront. The brewery bar shares the accommodation, originally constructed in 1939, with two other eateries, Salty’s and Kittyhawk Café, which has great Italian food.

Who’s buying?

Buyers in the neighbourhood are predominantly families and young professionals, for whom the direct ferry service to Auckland’s CBD is a major draw.

What will my money buy me?

New two-bedroom apartments can be purchased from NZ$600,000 while a three-bedroom terraced home would set you back between NZ$800,000 and NZ$900,000. Detached homes top out at approximately NZ$2 million.
