Why is the area up and coming?
Located on the shores of Lake Geneva, the town is home to the headquarters of the International Olympic Committee and the Olympic Museum. With just 140,000 residents, Lausanne charms with its medieval shopping streets and Gothic cathedral. The city has a youthful feel with numerous prestigious schools, including the École Hôtelière de Lausanne, the Collège Champittet, the International School of Lausanne, the University of Lausanne and the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne. This made it an obvious choice to host the 2020 Winter Youth Olympics, which will boost interest in the city.
My favourite bits
The Beau-Rivage Palace, Lausanne Palace and Royal Savoy hotels provide beautiful terraces and gastronomic experiences. The Flon area in the heart of Lausanne offers a large choice of bars and restaurants.
Who’s buying?
The local real estate market is well established and growing. Many new projects are currently under way within the Lausanne ring road, attracting local, French and English-speaking customers.

A four-bedroom apartment will cost between SFr1 million and SFr1.2 million. Budget SFr2.5 million for a larger detached villa.
