Next Neighbourhoods 2021: Shaughnessy, Vancouver, Canada
Historic Shaughnessy is a neighbourhood of sprawling estate homes, nestled either side of the main transport link between downtown and Vancouver International Airport. Just five minutes from the centre and 15 minutes from the airport, these estates offer privacy, seclusion and space, combined with great access to the rest of the city and beyond.

Why is it primed for growth?
Cooling measures including taxes on foreign buyers, vacancy and land transfer taxes have combined to push down prime property values by an average 30–45%, to pre-2016 levels. Now, the desire for more space in general – and for property in this prestigious neighbourhood in particular – is driving a surge in activity.
My favourite bits:
Walking through the winding streets beneath the canopy of mature trees, and admiring the mansions built by the pioneers that made this city. Some pre-1940 homes are now classified as heritage buildings, in order to preserve this important aspect of Vancouver’s history.
What will my money buy me?
Between C$5 million and C$6 million will buy you a 5,000 sq ft home on an 8,000 to 12,000 sq ft lot. Larger homes on larger plots of land are available too, and we are seeing more adjustment on price with these properties.
One thing the locals like to keep secret:
Vancouver’s Festival of Lights held at the VanDusen Botanical Gardens each Christmas.
