As new PM Liz Truss ushers in a new economic plan to battle a cost-of-living crisis and a sluggish economy, we ask the questions – where next for UK property?

In this live Q&A on Monday 3rd October at 12.30, our panel will answer the pressing questions relating to the UK property market.

• How long will interest rates continue to rise?
• Will property prices remain stable into next year and beyond?
• How are your property plans likely to be affected in the months to come?

The expert team comprises of Rory Penn – head of London sales, Julia Meadowcroft – country department, Simon Gammon – managing partner, Knight Frank Finance and Flora Harley – residential research.

Economic challenges

Flora noted the myriad of challenges facing Liz Truss as she came into office after winning the Tory leadership race at the beginning of September.

A backdrop of high inflation, sky high energy costs, a weakening pound and interest rate hikes make it a daunting task for anyone looking to tackle the stagnating UK economy.

What impact the new PM could have on the housing market is still up for debate, as Tom Bill explored earlier this month.

Mini-budget announcement

The mini-budget announced on Friday 23rd September has caused uncertainty in the markets. The long-term impact of the tax-cutting fiscal package is yet to be realised.

Amongst the measures announced in the fiscal policy were some aimed at stimulating the housing market including a stamp-duty cut, liberalisation of the planning rules and the release of land.

However, off the back of the announcement, the pound has taken a tumble against the dollar and markets are showing little faith in the proposed package.
