_Running beyond limits: a journey towards embracing change
When Eva Leung witnessed trail runners conquering Hong Kong's mountain paths in 2021, their determined strides and unwavering focus instantly inspired her. Today, as Knight Frank Hong Kong's Manager of Office Administration and an accomplished ultra-marathon runner, Eva embodies the spirit of continuous growth and fearless pursuit of new challenges. Her story demonstrates how stepping out of our comfort zones can transform our personal and professional lives.
Redefining possibilities at any age
"Neither gender nor age should limit our dreams and aspirations," Eva asserts, embodying this principle in every aspect of her life. Since joining Knight Frank Hong Kong in 2017, she has excelled in her professional role and emerged as an inspiring trail runner who conquers ultra-marathons—a journey she began later in life.
"I was captivated by the impressive trail runners navigating the mountains. They looked so cool, and I wanted to be like them," she recalls. What started as admiration quickly evolved into action, leading to remarkable achievements, including podium finishes in various ultra-marathons.
Perhaps the most striking aspect of Eva's journey is how it demonstrates the transformative power of pushing beyond comfort zones. Her resilience shines through in moments of challenge: "I kept going and refused to give up easily as I didn't want to squander my training effort." But it's her evolution in the approach that truly exemplifies growth.
"Recently, I tried a new strategy to cope with stress during competitions. Instead of focusing on my time, I stay relaxed and enjoy the journey," Eva explains. During her latest 100km race in Chiang Mai, she took a different path: "I didn't even glance at my watch. I embraced the beauty of the trails around me and even smiled at the camera!" This shift in mindset led to remarkable results – she finished 4th in her category.
Her response to challenges, whether in trail running or professional life, now centers on finding a balance between determination and joy. "After each race, I take the time to reflect on my performance and identify areas for enhancement. Everyone has weaknesses. The key is to embrace the journey of continuous growth," she shares.
This mindset has not only led to athletic achievements but has also influenced her leadership style at Knight Frank. As part of the ESG Taskforce and leading the Office Administration team, Eva brings the same principles of resilience and adaptability to her professional responsibilities.
Eva's experience at Knight Frank highlights how progressive workplace policies can help break down gender stereotypes. She points to the company's Family Leave policy as a concrete example of moving beyond traditional gender roles. "This policy recognises that family commitments and caregiving responsibilities are not confined by gender norms or traditional family roles," she explains. The policy's implementation has enabled both men and women to actively participate in family care, creating a more balanced and supportive work environment.
In a time where work-life integration now plays a central role, Eva's story demonstrates how embracing multiple roles can lead to personal fulfilment and professional success. She successfully balances her career at Knight Frank with being a mother, grandmother, and competitive trail runner. "I'm more physically fit now than I was in my twenties!" she proudly shares, challenging age-related stereotypes.
Looking ahead, Eva's sights are set on the legendary UTMB Mont Blanc, a grueling 171-kilometer trail running challenge across three countries.
Her parting wisdom resonates deeply: "You'll never know how far you can go until you push your limits and dare to try." These words embody the essence of personal and collective progress that defines the future of leadership at Knight Frank and beyond.
