December 16, 2020

Every so often a prime city development launches that is just a little bit special. Eye-catching skyscrapers in New York, prestigious landmark addresses in London, we're used to seeing these innovative new builds or artful reinterpretations take shape around the world.

"It's no exaggeration to say that this project is a true one-off, a genuine once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to own a portion of one of the world's cultural epicentres."

However, in the historical Renaissance city of Florence, a development of this scale and quality, combined with its magical surroundings, world-renowned history and spectacular location, brings a new dimension to the idea of 'special'. It's no exaggeration to say that this project is a true one-off, a genuine once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to own a portion of one of the world's cultural epicentres.

History of the Palazzo Portinari Salviati

The Palazzo Portinari Salviati is one of the most important and renowned buildings in the history of Florence. It is truly a masterpiece and shining example of Florentine Renaissance architecture.

To explain its name, the building was constructed during the early 1400s by the Portinari family, a member of which was Beatrice, Dante's muse. It was purchased from the Portinari's in 1456 by Jacapo Salviati, husband of Lucrezia Medici of the House of Medici who ruled Florence and Tuscany for over two centuries, who enlarged and modified the existing building into what we can see today.

Yet, this only scratches the surface of the building's long and illustrious history. The owners, residents and guests throughout the years of the Palazzo Portinari Salviati all played key roles in the history and development of the city that is so often attributed as the birthplace of the Renaissance. Florence's popularity is enduring, drawing crowds from all over the world every year to marvel as its famous terracotta-roofed architecture, collections of Renaissance art, literary connections and, of course, Brunelleschi's iconic Duomo, which is a mere stone's throw from the Palazzo.

Palazzo Portinari Salviati is located in the beating heart of the city. It is one of the key centre points of the story of Florence throughout the centuries, and its former inhabitants are some of the main protagonists. Now, as the building faces its new chapter, a team of talented architects and designers (including Spagnulo & Partners luxury interior design) are reimaging spaces that honour its past, breathing new life into its foundations, and most importantly, allowing the future residents of the property to discover the people that coloured the history of Florence; from the man behind the commissioning of Michaelangelo's David to one of the closest confidants of Galileo Galilei.
