The market for character stone homes in France is in a good position at present, French property specialist firm VEF has said.
Founder and managing director of the firm Trisha Mason stated that certain parts of the French market have difficulties at present, such as the off-plan sector which is suffering from "oversupply".
However, the niche market for old stone homes is still doing well, she observed, commenting: "The market for character stone properties remains strong due to the fact there is, obviously, a finite supply of these properties."
Another place where the character stone home market may be offering opportunities for international buyers is Spain.
The Times reported recently that many inland districts have a large number of such homes which are abandoned and need renovation.
However, it noted, a system now exists where the owner can pay a fee for a survey of the property to establish details about it and how easily it might be restored to become habitable.
