Those looking to invest in residentiallettings in Slovakia should look to the capital city Bratislava, it has been advised.
Managing director of Slovakia Investment Property Petra Gajdosikova said that for the most part Slovakians owned their property rather than renting it, with the capital being the exception to this rule.
He stated: "For there to be a rental market you need a lot of expat companies and students and so on, so Bratislava has always had the best rental market."
Mr Gajdosikova said that some investors had still been tempted by property elsewhere in the country because of its lower price, but commented that western buyers of rental property in central and eastern Europe were often "surprised" by just how high a rent they were able to charge.
Bratislava became the capital of Slovakia when the country was formed in 1993, following the split with the Czech Republic which brought an end to Czechoslavakia.
Slovakia has since joined the European Union and is due to adopt the euro as its national currency next year.
